Maame Dufie Achampong-Kyei Obeng (Mrs.)
Mame Dufie Achampong-Kyei Obeng (Mrs.) was appointed the Managing Director in 2019. Prior to her appointment as Managing Director, she was Executive Director/Chief Technical Operations Officer of the Company. Before joining GLICO Life, she was the Assistant General Manager in Charge of Risk Operations for GLICO General and later the Group Head, Enterprise Risk for GLICO Group.
She is a Chartered Insurer and an Associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK). She has over seven years work experience in the insurance industry. She has worked in different capacities at GLICO including being a Marketing Executive, Underwriting Officer, Claims Officer and a Management trainee.
Mrs. Obeng holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with Economics and Marketing from Aston University (UK) and a Master of Science degree in Insurance and Risk Management from Cass Business School (UK). She is currently a Doctorate of Business Administration candidate with the Swiss Management Centre (SMC University, Zurich).
After obtaining her Master of Science degree in Insurance and Risk Management, Maame Dufie established and headed the Enterprise Risk Management Department of GLICO and worked conscientiously to significantly improve the Company’s risk management system.
Maame Dufie is also presently a board member of GLICO General and GLICO Healthcare.
Ladonna Agyeman-Buahin (Mrs.)
Chief Operations Officer
Mrs. Ladonna Agyeman-Buahin is a career marketer with over ten (10) years progressive experience in sales & marketing. She is currently the Chief Operations Officer (COO) for GLICO Life Insurance Company Ltd.
Prior to rejoining GLICO Life as COO, she was the Head, Group Business & Partnerships at Hollard Life Assurance Ghana Ltd from June 2018 to November 2019. Mrs. Agyeman-Buahin began her sales & marketing career at GLICO Life as a Marketing Officer and worked diligently, rising through the ranks to become the Officer- in-Charge of Broker Relations. By dint of hard work and commitment, she was promoted as the Business Development Manager for Group Business; a position she held from January 2014 until her exit from GLICO Life in June 2018. Her return to GLICO Life as COO, is to support the growth agenda of the new Managing Director and ensure operational efficiency in positioning GLICO Life as the “Brand of Choice”.
Mrs. Agyeman-Buahin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Ghana, Legon; a Masters of Business Administration from GIMPA; an Advance Diploma in Insurance from the Ghana Insurance College and a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration also from GIMPA. She is a Chartered Insurer and an Associate Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute, United Kingdom (CII-UK).
Ernest Appau Asumang
Chief Finance Officer
Ernest Appau Asumang was appointed the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of the Company in 2019. Before his appointment as the CFO, Ernest served as the Head of Accounts of GLICO Life, after holding other management positions within GLICO Life and GLICO Group.
Ernest Appau Asumang joined GLICO in January, 2008 as a Senior Audit Officer having worked with and obtained extensive experience from Kwesie and Baah Consultants and later Osei Kwabena and Associates (both Chartered Accountants).
The pursuit of his professional career also took him to Ghana Post Company Limited as an Assistant Manager, Audit and Metro Mass Transit Ltd as Senior Auditor.
Ernest holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) – Finance from the University of Cape Coast and a Bachelor of Arts- Social Sciences from the University of Ghana, Legon.
Professionally, he is a Chartered Accountant and a member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation Ghana.
Joseph Sefah Duah
Chief Sales Officer (Individual Life Sales)
Joseph Sefah Duah has thirteen years’ experience in the insurance industry in Ghana. He was appointed the Chief Sales Officer, Individual Life, in 2019 after working with Prudential Life Insurance Company (Prudential Life) as a National Sales Manager for a number of years.
At Prudential Life, Joseph also held other prior positions including being the Head of Agency Development. He was also the first Head of Recruitment and Selection at Prudential Life and is largely credited with championing the Recruitment and Selection philosophy that is driving sales at Prudential Life.
Previously, he was the Head of Marketing and Sales at Quality Insurance Company and the Head of Business Development at KEK Insurance Brokers. Before entering into the insurance industry, Joseph worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and also as a Soldier with the British Army. Joseph has attended various insurance training courses, seminars and conferences in Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Dubai) and the United Kingdom.
Joseph successfully completed his university education in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences (Economics and Sociology) from the University of Cape Coast. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing from the University of Ghana Business School and a Masters in Population Studies from the University of Ghana, Legon (2003).
He holds a Diploma in Insurance (CII-UK), a Diploma in Insurance from the Ghana Insurance College and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from KNUST.
Ms. Cynthia Ewusi is dynamic, has a very high sense of professional approach to work, ability to evaluate performance and to motivate staff to be result oriented. All these qualities have made her one of the seasoned Micro Insurance Managers in Ghana. For many years now, she has been the major driving force behind the phenomenal growth of the Company’s microinsurance business segment.
Ms. Cynthia Ewusi holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Management with Computing from Regent University College of Science and Technology and is currently pursuing her Master of Science (MSc) programme at the Ghana Telecom University College.
As part of her continuous professional and career development, she has participated in several courses and seminars, both locally and abroad, which have enhanced her knowledge and capabilities in her current profession. .
John Ekar Smart
Chief Business Support Officer
John Ekar Smart is an astute insurance salesperson with expertise in financial services. He began his insurance career in 1987 when he joined GLICO Life as a Sales and Marketing Executive.
Before travelling to the US to further his education, John was promoted to the rank of a marketing manager; the first employee of GLICO Life to hold that position.
After completing his studies in the USA, John stayed and worked for over twenty years in banking. Some of the banks he worked with include the Bank of America N.A and Susquehanna Bank N.A.
In 2014, Mr. Smart was appointed the Group Marketing Consultant to streamline sales operations and in 2015, he was appointed Chief Business Development Officer of GLICO Life responsible for growing the Individual Life arm of the business. In 2019, Mr. Smart was took a new role as the Chief Business Support Officer.
Mr. Smart holds a post graduate Diploma in Life Insurance from the School of Professional Studies, New Jersey – USA, a post graduate Diploma in Life Insurance Marketing from Life Insurance Management and Research Associate (LIMRA) in Connecticut – USA and an Associate Degree In Computer Science from KNUST – Ghana.
He is also a member of the American Institute of Bankers (AIB) and holds a postgraduate Diploma in Banking from USA, an MBA in Finance from Strayer University – USA, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from the University of Phoenix – Arizona, USA. He has acquired a Diploma in Insurance from the Ghana Insurance College and pursuing courses that would lead to him becoming a Chartered Insurer.
Betty Sarpong Dadzie (Mrs.)
Head of Underwriting
Betty Sarpong Dadzie (Mrs.) is a Chartered Insurer with over twelve years’ experience in the insurance industry.
She joined GLICO Life in 2008 as a National Service Personnel attached to the Claims Department and later transferred to support the strategic growth of the Credit Life and Mortgage Department.
She performed creditably well during her national service period and was retained as an Officer at the Credit Life and Mortgage Department.Her dedication, commitment, versatility and impactful initiatives resulted in her subsequent appointment as Head of Credit Life and Mortgage Department, a position she held admirably until her promotion to her new supervisory role in 2019.
Betty holds a degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) School of Business. She is an Associate member of both the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), U.K and Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG).
As part of her professional and career development, Betty has participated in various local and international training programmes.
She is presently the Financial Secretary of the Chartered Insurance Ladies Association of Ghana (CILAG).
Northern Sector Manager
Augustina Cudjoe is a veteran in the insurance industry. Her experience spans over thirty years in the life insurance sector of the industry. She is regarded as one of the most dedicated and loyal employees of the Company.
She joined GLICO Life after graduating from Kumasi Polytechnic and through hardwork and unparalled commitment to the cause of the Company, has risen through the ranks to her present position. She has also mentored a number of salespersons, who have now become stalwarts in the insurance industry.
Augustina Cudjoe has been recognized and awarded on several occasions for her invaluable contributions to the Company.
Southern Sector Manager
Benjamin Avickson is a business leader with proven track records in strategic sales and marketing of insurance for more than fifteen years in the insurance industry; specifically with GLICO Life.
He started his sales career as a life insurance Sales Executive at Koforidua and by dint of hardwork progressively held different positions in the Sales and Marketing Department of the Company before his latest appointment as the Company’s Southern Sector Manager.
Benjamin holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing from the University of Professional Studies, Ghana and a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Computer Engineering from the All Nations University College, Ghana. He is currently a level seven student of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, United Kingdom.
He has added on to his wealth of knowledge through his participation in both local and international training programmes and seminars over the years.
Alexander Boakye Yiadom
Head of claim
Alexander Boakye Yiadom is an associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute – UK. He started his insurance career with GLICO Life as a marketing officer in 1997.
Through hard work, commitment to duty and other remarkable abilities, he was appointed Regional Sales Manager in 2001. In 2014 he was promoted to head the Claims Department; a position he has held commendably till date.
Mr. Boakye holds Advance Diploma in purchasing and supply from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, UK; Diploma in Microfinance from the University of Cape Coast; Diploma and Advance Diploma in Insurance from the Malta International Training Centre (M.I.T.C.)
He has also attended a number of industry training programs to augment his vast knowledge.
